LIFE at Google

LIFE magazine helped define the 20th century through amazing images. LIFE went places we could only imagine and brought back stunning, curious, funny, profound images that provided a running commentary and helped us understand our world. A huge percentage of the millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1860s to today, had never been published.

Until now.

Working with LIFE, Google is digitizing all of LIFE's images to seed its Image Search engine, and at about one-fifth of the way through, the results are already stunning. From Pablo Picasso and Marie Curie to Marilyn Monroe and the Vietnam War, the 1930s oil boom or St. Peter's Square -- our world and its history unfold in some of the finest photography ever presented.
